Obituary for Carol Ann James Carol Ann James, age 64, of Ashland Ohio, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Wednesday evening January 2, 2019 surrounded by family at the end of her courageous fight against Sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. It was a hard journey but a great finish as she enter into the presence of Jesus. She was born on November 2, 1954 to her parents, George Ruby and Doris (nee Davies) Ruby.

She was born in Rantoul Illinois and over the years lived with her family in Toul-Rosieres, France, Chicopee MA, Loring AFB ME, St David’s Island Bermuda, and settling in Napoleon OH. Carol graduated from Napoleon High School in 1973 and continued her education at Ashland College (University) where she graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology. She graduated Summa Cum Laude, Gamma Alpha Kappa Honorary Society, and with Faculty Honors.

She was elected to the National Honor Society in 1972. She was a member of the Ohio School Speech Pathology Educational Audiology Coalition (OSSPEAC). She passionately served for 39 years as a speech and language pathologist finishing with Mid-Ohio Education Services Center, Mansfield Ohio, serving many years as speech and hearing pathologist for the Plymouth-Shiloh Local Schools in Richland County.

She also worked in the Ashland County Schools and the Colorado Springs School District. Over the years she gave professional time to impact and change the lives of many students Carol was a member of the Grace church (West Main) of Ashland Ohio and also attended the Carpenters Grace Group which she was so blessed by their support and comfort during this difficult journey. She enjoyed her daily reading of God’s word and morning devotional time.

Before devoting time to raising her children, she and her husband enjoyed time sailing and boating on Lake Erie and exploring the islands with family and friends. She also enjoyed collecting hand woven baskets, stamps, and sewing clothes. While living in Colorado she tolerated skiing and enjoyed exploring abandoned mining towns of Colorado with her husband.

She was married for 38 years and survived by her loving husband David James and her children, Paul (Brittany) James, Joe James, and Mary (Jay) Hinkel. She is also survived by her mother, Doris Ruby, her 3 siblings, Mark (Diane) Ruby, Phil (Cindy) Ruby, and Rex (Sue) Ruby, one sister-in-law Cindy (Randy) Beamish, and was preceded in death by her father, George Ruby. Calling hours will be from 5:00PM to 8:00PM on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Grace Church, 1144 West Main, Ashland Ohio.

A private sunrise graveside service will be held for family and close friends on Friday, January 11, 2019. A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 Friday January 11, 2019 at the Grace Church, 1144 West Main, Ashland Ohio with the Rev. Dan Allan and Rev.
