She was born in Hartsville, South Carolina, a daughter of the late James Edward and Margaret Sims Koon. She was a career banker, her employers included Guaranty, South Carolina National, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo Banks.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Reuben “Gene” Hewitt, Sr., of the home; a son, Reuben E. Hewitt, Jr. (Kathy) of Effingham, SC; a daughter, Gina Hewitt Love, of Florence; three sisters, Maree Smith of Wilmington, NC, Phebe Holcombe (Hugh) of Darlington, and Lynn Koon, of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Cassy N. Hewitt, Tindall G. Hutchinson, Lucas James Reuben Hewitt, and Lilly Bennett Hewitt; and other special family members. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Hewitt Cemetery, Hewitt Cemetery Road, Effingham, SC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Thursday, at Waters-Powell Funeral Home in Florence.
