Carolyn Sharpe Gibson , March 24, 1945 — September 02, 2018

Carolyn Sharpe Gibson, 73, of Gales Creek, Newport, passed away Sunday, September 2, 2018, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House. Her Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at Soundview Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Jerry Box and Rev.

Shad Barrows. Carolyn retired from the Carteret County Schools with 30 years of service as a Teacher Assistant and Bus Driver. She was a member of Soundview Free Will Baptist Church where she was active in the church choir.

Carolyn loved Jesus and was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She is survived by her daughter, Caron Thompson and husband, Garland Jr., of Newport; son, Preston Gibson of Gales Creek, Newport; daughter, adopted-in-love, Rebecca Gurganus of Elizabethtown; brother, Ralph “Frosty” Sharpe and wife, Nancy; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda Gibson, Helen and Bill Jones, Mildred Jenkins, Barbara Bywaters, Barbara Sharpe; grandchildren, Drew Ballou and wife, Lauren, Luke Gurganus; great-grandchildren, John Luke Ballou, Ashlyn Lewis, Emily Grace Ballou; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews who loved their Aunt Carol dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph “Luke” Gibson; father, Theodore “Burr” Sharpe; mother, Bertha Sharpe; brothers, Albert Sharpe, Bobby Sharpe and wife, Tanya; and grandson, Darious Parker Ballou.
