Obituary of Carrie Johnson Carrie Johnson was born on December 27, 1923 to Willie Easley and Maime Lee in Baldwin County, Georgia. She was called home on April 2, 2018. Carrie first came to Monticello in 1951 seeking work in the Catskills.

Kate, as she was known to family and friends, had a true entrepreneurial spirit and blazed her own path. With the successful opening of Monticello Raceway in 1958, Kate was able to build her own businesses and invest in real estate. Carrie was a pillar of the community for over 50 years.

Carrie is predeceased by her husband, Emanuel Johnson, Sr., and children Betty Glenn, Daisy Ellis, and Marion Johnson. She is survived by her sons Emanuel (Lucille) Johnson, Jr. and Tommie (Shirley) Johnson, daughter Carolyn (Artie) Bolden, foster children Melissa Merchant, Sandra Hampton, Samantha Washburn (and others), more than 25 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, April 9 at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, 28 Liberty Street, Monticello, NY.

Viewing is from 11am-1pm only at the church. There will be no viewing once the service starts. Following the service, family & friends are invited to a repast at the Ted Stroeble Center in Monticello.
