Caryl R. “Smitty” Smith, 75, of Gloversville, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday May 18, 2019 at St. Mary’s Healthcare, Amsterdam. He was born in Oneonta on April 11, 1944 a son of the late Stuart and Eleanore Holbrook Smith and graduated from Oneonta High School. Mr. Smith was employed at Frontier Communications for over thirty years.

Following his retirement, he worked part-time at the Green Thumb in Northville. Caryl was a member and served as vice president and secretary of the Kennyetto Fire Company. In February, he was recognized for thirty years of service to the Company.

Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Navy serving from 1962-1966. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Frances Saggese Smith, whom he married on February 6, 1966. They spent fifty three beautiful years together and raised three sons, Shawne (Bethany) Smith of Duanesburg, Scott (Angie) Smith and Justin Smith, all of Gloversville; a brother, Dennis (Janet) Smith of Palm Harbor, FL; a sister, Nancy (Marc) Goldberg of Guttenberg, NJ; five grandchildren, Brandon, Devyn, Molly, Caiden, and Alyssa; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Cremation was performed at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services. Final burial will be held at the Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Kennyetto Volunteer Fire Company, in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Robert M.
