Ms. Catherine “Cay” (Dolhon) Gorman, 98, a life resident of Swoyersville, passed into Eternal Life New Year’s Day, January 1, 2019, following a recent illness. Born in Swoyersville on September 14, 1920, she was one of eleven children to the late Peter and Ann (Wowk) Dolhon. Educated in the Swoyersville schools, Ms. Gorman was a graduate of the former Swoyersville High School.

Until her retirement, she had been employed for over thirty years with the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Maryland, working as a statistician. Following retirement, she relocated to the Wyoming Valley, settling back in her roots of Swoyersville, where she kept quite active. Fond of the outdoors, Ms. Gorman enjoyed “popinki” picking and bird watching.

Having culinary skills of a bygone art, she enjoyed her seasonal gardens and canning the various fruits and vegetables she would cultivate over the years. She also kept busy by regularly attending the Kingston Senior Center where she made many wonderful friends. Ms. Gorman was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Walter, Steve, Paul, John, Peter Jr. and Anthony Dolhon; Anna Crowe and Sophie Metzo and by a niece and two great-nephews.

Left to cherish her memory are a sister, Mrs. Helen Packer of Maryland and many wonderful nieces and nephews, including her caregiver, Miss Janice Metzo of Wyoming; Raymond, David and Mark; Great-nieces and nephews including Ray III, Brendan and Gunner. Per Catherine’s previous wishes, funeral services will be private and at the convenience of her family. Interment will be next to her family in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.

There will be no public calling hours. Cay’s family would like to gratefully acknowledge the gentle compassionate care she received from Manor Care’s Med Bridge unit nursing staff in her final days. Honoring her love of animals, in lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions in Catherine’s memory would be appreciated toward the S.P.C.A.
