Cecile A. Hay, 78, of Divernon passed away at 8:40 p.m. September 1, 2018 at Memorial Hospice at Heritage in Springfield surrounded by her family. One of nine children, Cecile was born December 21, 1939 in Whatfield, Suffolk, England the daughter of Alfred and Rose Lloyd Clarke. She attended Hadleigh High School.

She married U.S. Air Force Sgt. Robert R. Hay on January 30, 1960 in Whatfield and he preceded her in death on July 13, 2003. Also preceded by her parents, four brothers – Arthur, Peter, Alan, and Colin Clarke; two sisters Sylvia Jones and Phyllis Jones.

During her husband’s military career, they were stationed at Bentwaters AFB and Upper Heyford AFB, England; and Whiteman AFB, MO; Wurtsmith AFB, MI; Grand Forks AFB, ND; Blytheville AFB, AK. Following her husband’s retirement from the Air Force, they moved to Divernon. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1971.

She was a cook and cafeteria manager for the Divernon School District, manager of the Hen House restaurant in Divernon, and hostess/cashier at the Truckers Homestead restaurant. She was a member of Chatham Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Bob (Barb) and Richard (Brenda) Hay of Chatham; one daughter, Mary (Eric) Carter of Divernon; five grandchildren – Debra (Nick) Cozadd of Cumming, GA; Garrett (Jackie) Hay of Mascoutah; Evan (Torie) Hay of Edwardsville; Jon and Ethan Carter of Divernon; one step-grandson Darrin (Amber) Winters of Cumming, GA; one great grandson, Nolan Cozadd; four step-great grandchildren – Austin Culver, Juliana, Jenessa, and Aidan Winters; two sisters – Yvonne (Jack) Simpson of Petersfield, Hampshire, England; Marie Houldey of Corse, Gloucester, England; one sister-in-law – Patsy Clarke of Hadleigh, Suffolk, England; two brothers-in-law, Howard (Phyllis) Hay of Fort Collins, CO; and Allan (Gail) Hay of Bixby, OK; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4 till 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018, at Bramley Funeral Home in Divernon. Additional visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Chatham Baptist Church followed by funeral service at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Dr. Milton Bost. Burial will follow at Brush Creek Cemetery, Divernon.
