Cecilia Camacho, April 11, 1943 — January 20, 2019

Cecilia’s Obituary Cecilia Camacho was born April 11, 1943 in San Joaquin, Colombia. Her parents were Arturo Camacho and Carmen Rosa Pena, both deceased. She was the eldest of five children.

Her brother, Nacor, and sisters, Elda, Nora and Julia are all married with children and grandchildren and reside in Colombia. Cecilia came to the US in the early 70’s for professional reasons and has lived and worked primarily in Washington, DC but also in New York and Chicago. She moved to Pembroke, MA last spring for medical reasons.

She worked for many years as part of the domestic staff in cultural centers. She was especially helpful in supporting other women who came to work here from other Spanish-speaking countries, helping them to adapt to their new circumstances while still maintaining their own religious and cultural heritage. She loved the outdoors- flowers, plants, nature and enjoyed walking and swimming whenever she had the chance!

She also loved music and dancing in her younger years, especially the music of her country. She felt especially blessed that she had been able to make a trip to the Holy Land last fall before her illness- ALS – advanced to the point she could no longer move around. She bore her illness with remarkable calm and faith, truly abandoned to the will of God.

She kept up with her friendships and was always attentive to the concerns of others, praying for them and enquiring about their progress. She went to her eternal reward on January 20, 2019. Visiting hours at the Arnold Hall, 1 Randall Street, Pembroke, on Wednesday from 4-8PM.

A funeral service will be held at the Arnold Hall at 9:30 AM on Thursday, followed by burial at St Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
