Obituary for Cecilio “Cecil” Soto . Cecilio Soto, 85, of Division Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away, Wednesday July 4, 2018 at Capstone Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Amsterdam. Born in Ciales, Puerto Rico on November 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Miguel and Saturina Hernandez Soto.
Cecil received his education and graduated from school in Ciales. Cecil was employed in the Engineering Department at General Electric in Schenectady, NY. Cecil was a former parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Amsterdam.
Cecil was a member of the former Spanish American Club and also played softball in several Amsterdam Recreation Leagues. He was also an avid bowler. His wife Ruth Marie Soto predeceased Cecil in 1988.
Cecil is survived by five sons, Cecil Soto (Robin), Daniel Soto, Brian Soto, Michael Soto and stepson, Peter Lotmen, four daughters, Linda Delli Veneri (Tom), Donna Duffy (Joe), Kathy Baab (John) and Suzanne Andino (Damien), one brother, Miguel Soto Jr., 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Cecil was also predeceased by one son, Anthony Soto, two brothers, Genaro “Jimmy” Soto and Eugino Soto and two sisters, Floria and Juana Soto.
Calling hours are Monday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc. Funeral services will be held Monday morning July 9, 2018 at 11:30 at the Riley Mortuary, Inc., 110 Division Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010, followed at 12:00 noon by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche M.S. at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY. Interment at St Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY will be private.
