He was born on September 15, 1923, at Frelsburg, son of Percy Otto and Mary Leyendecker Kollmann. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frelsburg.

He attended the Herman Seminary School in Frelsburg, and graduated from Columbus High School in 1942. Buck served in the Marine Corps during World War II from 1944-1945. He married the love of his life, Ora Dell Reeder on June 30, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church, New Ulm; a long and happy marriage of 67 years.

Buck and Ora Dell moved to Bellville right after they got married in July 1946. He said it was the best thing that he did as the people of Bellville were so welcoming. Buck worked at San Bernard Electric, A.T.S.F.

Railroad, and then the U.S. Post Office until his retirement in 1984. He also started a chain link fence business, and many of those fences are still standing in the Bellville area. Buck spent lots of time hunting for coons and squirrels with his prized coon hound “Flash”.

He also hunted for deer and usually was one of the first to get one on opening morning. He also loved fishing, cooking chili and stew for many volunteer organizations, and drinking Pearl beer. He had many stories of his hunting expeditions with Flash and was often in the local papers with pictures of his latest big buck or yellow cat.

He also loved to play dominoes, especially when his team was winning! Buck grew up during the Depression years, so he was very frugal and could fix just about anything or make do with what he had. And he was lucky, often winning area raffle prizes.

He was very proud of his family history—his ancestors were some of the first settlers in the Frelsburg, Texas area. And he loved seeing his relatives at the Kollmann Camphouse, most recently at his 95th birthday party and earlier this month during deer hunting season. He also told stories of how God always took care of him throughout his life in many ways.

He led a life of service and was involved in many community activities and organizations including serving on the nominating committee for San Bernard Electric, District 4, for many years; member of St. John Lutheran Church of Bellville, since 1947, Retreat Center Volunteer; Men in Mission; Church Council and usher; Austin County Livestock Assn. ; Austin Co. Game and Fish; charter member of the Texas Sportsman’s Assn. ; Concordia Hall German Society until the late 1990’s; Coshatte Agriculture Society; Woodmen of the World (Watchman for many years); life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 6522); life member of American Legion (Post 115); life member of Texas State Rifle Assn.

; member of National Rifle Assn. ; AARP; and Austin County Farm Bureau. He was always ready to help out where needed.

He was a loving father and grandfather, known as “Papa” to his grandkids. He had a wonderful life filled with family, friends, and relatives who all adored his kind and generous heart. He is survived by sons, Fred E. Kollman and wife Karen (Emshoff), William Dale Kollman and wife Debra (Peschel); grandchildren, Kristy Ann Kollman Thompson and husband David Kipp Thompson, Andrew Fred Kollman and wife Natasha (Weishuhn), Tammy Jo Kollman Goebel and husband Blair Goebel, and Kitt William Kollman and wife Natalie (Masson); great grandchildren, Jordyn Lee and Amanda Kay Thompson, Kynzie Dalane and Kash Andrew Kollman, and Eli William Kollman; step great grandsons Koltin and Kasen Kocian.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, and special friend, Joyce Miller, whose company he enjoyed so much.
