Obituary for Charles Dee “Big Al” Alexander Charles Dee “Big Al” Alexander, 69, of Johnson City went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the VA Medical Center. He was born in San Antonio, Texas and was the son of the late Henry Aves and Bertha Staton Alexander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, George A. Byrd, his brother, John Henry Alexander.
Big Al proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps where he was awarded several medals for his service in Vietnam. He also served the community of Johnson City as a Fire Fighter for over thirty one years. He worked with the Just Say No To Drugs program for several years.
Big Al will be deeply missed, as he was loved by all who knew him. Those left to cherish Big Al’s memory include his sons: Kenny Johnson and his wife Debbie, Scotty Johnson, Bobby Johnson and his wife Shannon; his girlfriend, Tammy Yelton, sister, Linda Woodby and her husband Ken, step-brother, Eddy Byrd and his wife Sara, grandsons: David Charles Johnson, and Peyton Scott Johnson, several aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins, and many friends. The family will gather with friends to share memories from 5:00 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral and Cremation Services until a Celebration of Big Al’s Life at 7:00 pm with Reverend Palmer Jones officiating.
A Graveside and Committal Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Wednesday at Mountain Home National Cemetery. The Johnson City Fire Department Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home by 1:50 pm on Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
