Charles Vincent, 88, formerly of Silver Bay, died Monday, May 21, 2018 at Heritage Manor in Chisholm. Charlie was born to Horace and Rosanna (Darling) Vincent on September 17, 1929 in Dannemora and grew up on a small dairy farm at nearby Chazy Lake, in upstate New York. He attended grade school at Ellenberg Depot and graduated as valedictorian of his high school class at Dannemora.

Charles enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1946 and was honorably discharged in March 1948. Charles and Doris Kelley married on June 30, 1951 in Lyon Mountain, New York where Charles worked for Republic/Armco Steel in the underground mines. Charles and Doris moved to Babbitt, Minnesota in 1952 where Deborah and William were born being transferred from out east at the onset of taconite mining in Northern Minnesota.

The young family moved to Silver Bay in 1955 where David, Richard, and Sandy were born and where Charles worked for Reserve Mining Company for the next 31 years. After retirement from Reserve, Charles and Doris moved to Beulah, North Dakota where Charles became a foreman at Great Plains Coal Gasification Plant. Charles and Doris returned to Silver Bay 5+ years later where they officially retired.

In 2013 Charles and Doris moved to Hillcrest in Hibbing where Doris still resides. Charlie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Silver-Beaver Trap Club. Buster enjoyed fishing, hunting grouse, deer and duck, and trapshooting.

He and Doris thoroughly enjoyed trap night and the comradery with the members of the club. Charlie was preceded in death by a son, Richard. He is survived by his wife, Doris Mae; children, Deborah (Glenn) Kangas, William (Lori) Vincent, David (Kathy) Vincent, and Sandra (Chuck) Palmquist; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Vincent; a sister, Patricia Minkler; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Silver Bay Cemetery.
