Richard Stavig, 92, of Two Harbors died peacefully in his home on June 2, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on January 31, 1926 to Benhardt and Cecelia (Tulibacki) Stavig in Duluth. Richard was a Veteran, having served in the Merchant Marines, Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force Reserves.

He married Myrna Mae Peterson on June 1, 1949. They lived in Duluth until 1963 when they moved the family to Two Harbors. Richard was employed at Reserve Mining as an Electrical foreman and Master Electrician until his retirement.

He was a Past Worshipful Master of Fortitude Lodge # 188 and was recently honored for 50 years of service. Richard was also a member of the Aad Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite, serving as Secretary of the Scottish Rite in Duluth for many years. He loved tinkering around his home and was an avid reader.

His home was always the center hub of activity for family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrna Mae; son, Dennis; and daughter, Deborah. He is survived by his sister, Gloria Stavig of Duluth; 4 sons and 3 daughters, Allen (Dorothy) Stavig of Coon Rapids, Barbara (Lyle) Hendrickson of Warroad, Susan (Larry) Dykstra of Adams, TN, Randolph (Dawnmarie) Stavig of Two Harbors, Leslie Stavig of Coon Rapids, Roy (Laurie) Stavig of Andover, and Gail Wyckoff of Warroad; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the 1 PM Memorial service on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Masonic Lodge in Two Harbors, with a reception to follow in the lower Masonic Hall. In lieu of flowers and cards, the family is requesting any donations be made to the University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital in the name of Richard Stavig.
