Charles Ray Porter, 98, of Phenix City, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at the Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City, AL. Visitation will be held 1:30-2:30 PM Tuesday, January 15 at the Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City.

A graveside service at 3:00 PM and internment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. Mr. Porter was born October 19, 1920 in Griffin, GA , son of Rice McClane Porter and Emma Lou Hamilton. He served in the Pacific under U.S. Navy 110th Construction Battalion during World War II and worked for Southern Bell Telephone Company, Columbus, GA.

For many years, he and his family attended First Baptist Church, Phenix City. Mr. Porter is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mae Porter and brother, Harold M. Porter. He is survived by three sons, David Ray Porter (Donna) of Huntsville, AL, Gary Stephen Porter of Poplarville, MS, and Richard Avery Porter of Sherwood, TN; grandchildren, Jared Porter (Megan), Dr. Rylan Porter (Teresa), Tabatha Porter (f.

Mike), and Ryan Porter; and great-grandchild, Theodore Porter.
