Charles Shelton, 61, of Toney, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Thursday. Charles was a positive, fun-loving person who was always there to help others, was a great listener, gave the greatest hugs, and he never met a stranger. He loved telling funny stories, playing rook, and was an avid square dancer.

He had a positive attitude and was always upbeat even when things were not going well. Charles was also a faithful Alabama football fan and loved the weekly gatherings at Pastor Mike’s. He also enjoyed watching basketball and tennis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hanford “Hank” Shelton, and by his wife, Caileen Shelton. Surviving family members include his significant other, Carla Merrill; His mother, Jeanette Shelton; His brother, Darrell (Patsy) Shelton; His sister, Deborah (Mark) Holaway; His nephews and niece, Adam Holaway, Mike Russell, and Rachel Holaway; He is also survived by numerous “adopted” Merrill family members in Las Vegas. There will be a Celebration of Life service on Sunday at 4pm at Murphy Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Mike McFarlen officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation (www. kidney.org/) or the American Diabetes Association (www. diabetes.org) for research.
