Mr. Charles Willard Mauro, 93, passed away peacefully at Lakeland Hospital – St. Joseph on the evening of Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Mr. Mauro was born on November 13, 1925 in Fayville, MA to Charles and Florence E. (Gray) Mauro. On June 7, 1947, Charles was married to Patricia Ann Rodenberg, who survives.

Charles proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army and obtained his Master’s degree in Education, later also obtaining his Ed.S. In 1959, Charles moved to Michigan, working as the principal of Cedar Lake Academy. Throughout his career in education, Charles worked as a teacher, guidance counselor and dean of students at several area academies and high schools. Charles retired from education from the Benton Harbor Community School Corporation.

Charles was a member of Pioneer Memorial Church in Berrien Springs. Charles is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Patricia Ann Mauro; children Steven (Mary Elizabeth) Mauro of Berrien Springs and Nancy (Greg) Gerard of Calhoun, GA; grandchildren Andrew Gerard, Brooke Mauro, Allison Handal and Steven Mauro; three great-grandchildren; as well as a host of extended family members and friends. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Leland and Ernest Mauro.

The family of Charles Mauro will host a memorial service in his honor at Pioneer Memorial Church, on the campus of Andrews University, 8655 University Blvd, Berrien Springs, MI 49103 on February 2, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. Pastor Dwight Nelson will officiate.
