Charles William Smith, age 80, died Monday, February 18, 2019 in Estero Florida. Chuck was born September 15, 1938 in Pontiac, Michigan. He is survived by his wife Beverly Smith; children, Mark Smith (Jill), Troy Smith (Debbie), Don Smith (Debbie), Paul (Kathy) Engelberts, Donna Pont, Mark Engelberts, Michele (Tom) Shoan, Julie (Phil) Marsili; brother, Rocky (Kim) Smith; “Lil Sis” Cathy Walters; and his lifetime friend and ‘bosom buddy’ Frank (Carla) Moyer.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph & Betty Smith; sister, Charlene Gerou; nephew, Korby Gerou; and children, Renee Gillis, John Engelberts, and Vicky Engelberts He is also survived by 40+ grand/great grandchildren, many nieces & nephews, and a loving host of long-time friends. Chuck’s dedication and silly sense of humor was enjoyed by many friends and colleagues during his 35+ year career at General Motor’s Proving Grounds. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

He was passionate about his family and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, fishing, hunting, swimming, boating, or simply enjoying God’s creation. He will be remembered as someone who was always willing to help. No task was too large or too small and all of them required his very focused attention to detail.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church, 25999 Old 41 Road, Bonita Springs, FL 34135 In lieu of flowers, Chuck’s family has requested memorial contributions to be made in his honor to Hope Lutheran Church 25999 Old 41 Rd, Bonita Springs, FL 34135 (239) 992-6952. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home.
