Joan Purdon Levenson, 79, of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2019. Formerly of Crofton, MD, she had been a Bonita Springs resident for the last 28 years. She was born September 8, 1939 in Boston, MA, the daughter of Alexander and Margaret Dickinson (née Baird) Purdon.

Joan attended the University of Maryland where she was a cheerleader for the varsity football team. Later she went to work in municipal financial management, serving as Comptroller for the towns of Kensington, MD and Crofton, MD. She also obtained a real estate license and practiced in Maryland and Florida.

She enjoyed tennis, golf and bridge. A major highlight of her life is the successful raising of six children, whom she loved dearly. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Stephen S. Levenson; her beloved children, Richard (Lisbeth) Hyde of Cartersville, GA, William (Nancy) Levenson of Highlands Ranch, CO, Eric Hyde of Richmond, VA, Michael (Beth) Levenson of Williamsburg, VA, Margaret (Ralph) Smith of Severn, MD and Jennifer (David) Canning of Orlando, FL; her sister, Gail (the late John) Swain of Sparta, NJ; nineteen cherished grandchildren; and two treasured great grandchildren.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www. alz.org.
