Obituary for Charles Perez Charles “Charlie” Perez passed away October 24th, 2018. He was born September 13th 1956 to Ricardo “Dick” Perez and Sumiko “Sue” Perez in Las Cruces, NM. The youngest boy of the Perez clan Charlie grew up learning the family business, Dick’s Café.

They started on Main St. and expanded their business moving to Valley Dr., Mesilla, and Motel Blvd. Later, Charlie would own and operate the Blue Moon Bar in Radium Springs. As a young boy he was adventurous.

With neighborhood friends he would jump for days on their dirt bikes in the area known as Beverly Hills. He attended Hermosa Heights Elementary school, Lynn Middle School, and graduated in the class of 1975 from Las Cruces High School. Everyone knew Charlie by his yellow Gremlin.

He then attended a welding trade school at New Mexico State University, and worked briefly in El Paso. He grew tired of bologna sandwiches and went back to work for Dick’s Café. Charlie, or Chuck, was a true outdoors-man, and enjoyed exploring new places.

He loved going out with his nephews and son fishing and hunting. He learned to scuba dive later in his life, and traveled to Mexico and the Bahamas exploring the reefs. Charlie also loved traveling to Alaska to fish for salmon with cherished friends.

He loved riding his Harley, and tinkering with his 1938 Chevrolet he had since the early 80’s. He was creative and could be found in his garage welding little creatures out of scrap metal to one day sell his art at the farmers market. Everywhere Charlie went he was adored by all who met him.

Charlie is survived by his son Christopher “Chico” Perez (Amanda), and his daughter Vanessa Perez (Jonathan Reyes). He is also survived by his brothers Michael Perez (Juanita), Robert “Bobby” Perez (Mary), sisters Jenny Perez & Rosie Hendrix, and half brother Felipe Aguilar. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends who he has left his imprint on for the rest of their lives.

He is preceded in death by his mother Sue, father Dick, and brothers Santiago “Jim” Perez, Ricardo “Dickie” Perez, and James “Jimmy” Rodriguez. Celebration of his life will be held at Getz Funeral Home at 1410 E. Bowman at 10:00 am on October 31st, 2018.
