Charlie Emory Salyers, August 26, 1929 — April 29, 2019

Charlie Emory Salyers, age 89, of Shawsville, Virginia, formerly of Raven, Virginia passed away on Monday, April 29, 2019 at his daughter’s home. Mr. Salyers was born in Raven, Virginia and was the son of the late Charlie and Stella Green Salyers. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.

Mr. Salyers was a retired coal miner and was the chief electrician at Knox Creek Preparation Plant. He was a member of the Road Ridge Assembly of God Church and lived most of his life in the Raven area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Thea East; and two brothers, Bernard Salyers and James A. Salyers.

He is survived by: His Wife: Lois Price Salyers Two Daughters: Teresa Taylor and husband, Daniel of Shawsville, Virginia Christine Allen and husband, David of Christiansburg, Virginia Son: Timothy Emory Salyers and wife, Aleshia of Christiansburg, Virginia Three Sisters: Carol Sims of Raven, Virginia Jo Hagy of Powell, Tennessee Phyllis Williamson and husband, Allen of Raven, Virginia Brother: Doris Salyers and wife, Luvonne of Abingdon, Virginia Also surviving are five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Charlie Emory Salyers will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2019 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Ethel Watson and Rev.

Bud Fugate officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Mark Salyers, Jeffrey Lane, Michael Salyers, Earl Hess Jr., Henry Foster, E. W. Griffith, Dusty East, Zach Graham, and Justin Arnold.

Honorary pallbearers are Allen Williamson, Danny Ball, Billy Gilbert and Arnold Short. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military rites. The Salyers family will receive friends from 11-1 on Friday at the funeral home.
