Clarence Steffan OTTAWA – Clarence Steffan, 94, of Ottawa passed away at 12:20 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2019 at The Meadows of Ottawa. Clem, as he was called by his family and friends, was born January 19, 1924 in Leipsic to the late Lawrence and Agnes (Meyer) Steffan. A lifelong farmer, he married Phyllis Unverferth on June 5, 1948 in Kalida and she preceded him in death on November 24, 1972.

In January 1976 he married Roseann Barlage, who preceded him in death in July 1991. In July 1992 he married Rita Kleman, who preceded him in death in February 2017. Together Clem and Phyllis had five children: Keith Steffan of Defiance, Marlin (Peg) Steffan of Ottawa, Joyce Steffan of Powel, and Mike (Tammy) Steffan and Roger (Chris) Steffan, both of Findlay.

He is also survived by 9 stepchildren: Steve (Vicki) Barlage, Pat Barlage, Karen Barlage, Mike Barlage, Janet Leopold, Jackie (Kevin) Schroeder, Jane (Ken) Hermiller, Dan (Linda) Kleman, and Ken (Shirley) Kleman; two stepdaughters-in-law: Blanche and Judy Kleman; 13 grandchildren: Tara Steffan, Chelsea Steffan, Sara Steffan, Cory Steffan, Brandon Fenbert, Jamie Buddelmeyer, Joshua Steffan, Jarrod Steffan, Bryn Steffan, Tyler Miller, Roger Steffan, Jr., Derek Steffan, and Madeline Steffan; 29 great-grandchildren: Tori and Will Fox, Makenna Henson, Chase, Hunter, and Gage Steffan, Grady, Gabreille, and Miley Steffan, Peyton, Ian, Kaiden, Kali, Kira, and Kyla Fenbert, Shea and Saige Buddelmeyer, Cameron, Tanner, Avarie, and Connelly Steffan, Brandon Steffan, Payne and Tatum Steffan, Kamryn, Sierra, and Alyssa Miller, and Lincoln and Lily Steffan; a brother: Edwin Steffan of Leipsic; 2 sisters-in-law: Sharon Ricker of Columbus Grove and Bev Unverferth of Kalida; and many many stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson: Kyle Steffan; three stepsons: Jim, Jerry, and Steve Kleman; a stepson-in-law: Terry Leopold; and a stepdaughter-in-law: Connie Kleman. Clem was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan, and Ohio State fan.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2019 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Ottawa with Fr. Rick Friebel officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Leipsic. Visitation will be Sunday 2 to 8 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the service at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
