Clarice Elouise Mastrud Butterfield, 85, of Emmett, Idaho, died June 11, 2018, at her home in Meadow View Assisted Living Center in Emmett. Visitation: 1:00 PM and Funeral Services: 2:00 PM, Monday, June 18 at Potter’s Funeral Chapel, 228 East Main Street, Emmett. Pastor David Reeder and Pastor Earl Lane, both of Emmett, presiding.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Bismarck, North Dakota, on Friday, June 22nd at 10:00 a.m. Clarice was born December 11, 1932, outside Bowbells, North Dakota, in North Star township of Burke County. She was the daughter and only child of Carl Bernard Mastrud and Hazel Agnes Swenson Mastrud. Clarice graduated from Bowbells High School in 1950 and Minot State Teacher’s College in 1952.

She taught elementary school from 1952-54 in Coteau, North Dakota, and served as a substitute teacher in Seattle, Washington; Pollock Pines, California; and Gillette, Wyoming. She was the Librarian of the Challis, Idaho, Public Library from 1982 to 1984. She married Russell Keith Butterfield on June 10, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Coteau, North Dakota.

They were married for 54 years, raising their three children in different parts of the western U.S. while Russell worked as a business manager for Morrison Knudson Construction Company Clarice enjoyed music, sewing, knitting, quilting, traveling, fishing, gardening, reading; and special times with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Russell. Clarice is survived by her daughter Jolene (Carl) Whiting of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jenness (Janet) Butterfield of Challis, Idaho; and Barry (Cindy) Butterfield of Emmett.

She is also survived by grandchildren Amanda (William) Whiting Everman; Justin (Tracy) Butterfield; Eric (Jada) Butterfield; Briana (Chad) Butterfield Spelatz, Marilyn (Ryan) Southfield; and Melissa Engstrom; and 9 great-grandchildren with numerous nieces and nephews.
