21, 1940, in Florala and grew up in Mobile, where she graduated from Murphy High School and Mobile Infirmary School of Nursing. In her 46-year career as a nurse, she worked in hospitals in Florala and Mobile, and spent her final working years as director of a nursing care facility. She was a former member and president of the Alabama Cardiac Nursing Association.

Throughout her life, she pursued many interests, but loved most her family. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston Oates and Nellie Quinn Johnson; a brother, Mack Johnson; and a nephew, Chad Edward Adams.

Survivors include her sister and devoted caregiver, Theresa Johnson Adams of Destin; sister, Heddy (John Ferrin) Cox of Elba; and numerous nieces and nephews, including James (Nellie) Adams of Destin, Jamee Adams of Jasper, Ga. , Michele Cox Gerlach of Andalusia, Chris Cox of Beauregard, Ala. , Eric Cox of Excel, Ala.

, Reba Gail Harrison of Opp, Sheila Stricklen of DeFuniak Springs, Michael H. Johnson of DeFuniak Springs, and Donna Nall of Enterprise. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. on Tues. , Feb.

26, 2019, at Evans Funeral Home in Florala with the Rev. James Pickron officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Mon. , Feb. 25.
