Obituary for Clifton Allen Clifton Harold Allen, 75, of Willoughby, died peacefully in his home Monday, July, 23, 2018, after a 3-year battle with cancer. He was born March 23, 1943, in Warren, the son of the late Clifton Harrison and Doris Marie (nee Jones) Allen. Cliff graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1961, and Cleveland State University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1972.

Cliff began his career as an engineer and purchasing agent at Copperweld Steel and Packard Electric in Warren. Upon moving to Cleveland, he worked for Gould/Clevite Industries Inc. and various other firms, retiring in 2003. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, Cliff was an Eagle Scout and spent most of his life enjoying fishing, boating, hunting, and watching and attending car races.

He enjoyed meticulously researching genealogy of his family lineage and reading about history. An expert handyman, Cliff could always be counted on to fix any mechanical issue and was commonly the first call for such issues from family and friends. He leaves behind his wife Mary Jo (nee Forde) Allen, whom he married April 7, 1979; children, Lauren Marie Allen of Washington, D.C. and Clifton Harold (Nancy) Allen Jr. of Valley City; brother, Donald T. (Karen) Allen of Cortland; sister, Helen Adam of Newton Falls; grandchildren, Isabella and Nico Allen; nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Cliff was preceded in death by his son, Frank Forde Allen, with whom Cliff enjoyed participating in Boy Scouts and fixing cars, including Frank’s yellow 1974 Chevrolet Corvette; and brother-in-law, Albert Adam. Family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, July 28, at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave. , Willoughby, with a memorial service to follow.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Cliff’s name be made to the Frank Forde Allen/SSOE Memorial Scholarship Fund (1301714) via mail to The University of Toledo, MS #319 Driscoll Center, 2801 W. Bancroft St., Toledo, OH 43606-3395 or in the care of the family. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center at Hillcrest Hospital for their excellent care, love, and support.
