Obituary of Coney Fortner Coney Zepp Lynch Fortner was born August 26, 1928 and moved to her heavenly home on November 25, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Fortner, parents Green and Cordelia Keck Lynch, Brother Fitz and Clell Lynch and sisters Bernice Moyers, Jewell Beason and Japp Lynch. Coney is survived by her daughters, Bridget and Jack Day and Portia and Randall Smith; grandchildren Mackenzie and Franklin Watkins, Whitney and Chad Lawson, Chandler and Paige Smith and Corbett Smith; great grandchildren Delaney, Nate, Garrett, Shelby and Hayden.

Coney was saved and belonged to Lily Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She began teaching school at Ford’s Chapel School in 1946, after graduating from Claiborne County High School. She taught school at Locust Grove, Watsons Chapel and Edwards schools.

In the 1960’s she became a teacher for the Clinch Powell Head start and worked there until 1996. After retirement she worked fulltime at home. She was able to live alone until shortly before her death.

She was a matriarch of her family. Coney loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. She was fond of her neighbors and will be missed by many in the Lily Grove Community.

In lieu of flowers the family asks please make donations to the Lily Grove Cemetery Fund at P.O. Box 163 Tazewell, TN 37879. The Family will receive friends Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 5 PM till 7 PM with funeral services to follow at 7 PM in the Claiborne-Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jack Day and Rev.

Eddie Overholt officiating. Music will be provided by John Mike. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11 AM in the Lily Grove Cemetery for Graveside services.

Pallbearers: Michael Killion, Ian Ickes, Bruce Killion, Chandler Smith, Corbett Smith, Franklin Watkins and Chad Lawson Honorary Pallbearers: her great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
