Obituary for Conwell Horton Conwell James Horton, 89, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018. He was born July 22, 1929 in Marshall, TX, the son of James and Althalean (Statin) Horton. Conwell served in the US Army from February of 1951 to February of 1953.

He married Alma Richardson on July 12, 1952 in Battle Creek. Conwell worked for over 25 years for Ashley Dairy delivering milk and operating machines. He later started working for Waste Management and retired after 10 plus years of service.

He was an avid bowler and bowled in numerous leagues. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, playing bingo and cards, and his favorite spot the casino. Conwell was also a wonderful dancer and cook.

He loved hosting BBQ’s and cooking for the holidays and family gatherings. Family was everything to Conwell, and he loved his children and grandchildren deeply. He always made the best of every situation and was full of jokes and stories.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; children, Renay Horton-Montgomery, James (Sherry) Horton Jr., LaMount (Toni) Horton, Linda (Keith) Horton- Matthews, and Leonard (Yovonna) Horton; 16 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Sharon Horton; siblings, Annerbelle Lewis, Willifred Horton, Minola Horton, Charlie Horton, and Dorothy Jean Flint; infant great -grandson, Shawn Brown; infant great-grand daughter Masiiyah Matthews. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Thursday, September 20th from 12:00-12:30 p.m. with the funeral service to immediately follow at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI.
