Damon Thompson Sr. was born on March 23, 1935 in Florence, SC. He was the son of John and Marie Robinson Thompson. He departed this life on Monday, January 14, 2019, at McLeod Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

Damon, lovingly known as “Sonny Boy,” was joined in Holy Matrimony to Laura Mae Echols on April 9, 1955. To this union, seven children were born. Damon attended the public schools of Florence, South Carolina.

He was formerly employed with Stuckey Brothers Furniture and Magic City Cab Company. He also served diligently as a Firefighter for the Florence Fire Department from 1969-1994 until his health declined. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Vander Louis; and one brother, Willie Charles Thompson.

Those left to cherish his memories include: his wife, Laura Mae Echols Thompson; his children: Damon (Carolyn) Thompson Jr, Billy (Janice) Thompson, Ernest (Lola) Thompson, Ronnie (Laura) Thompson, Doris (Bobby Sr.) Thompson Muldrow, and Pamela Thompson, all of Florence, SC; twelve grandchildren: Shalanda Thompson, Latonya (Chad) Corey, Natasha Muldrow, Bobby Muldrow Jr., Ernest Thompson Jr., Sierra (Anthony) Rowell, Latoya (Walter Sr.) Washington, Ranetra (Michael) Miller, Rachelle Thompson, Tevin (Kyla) Muldrow, Quanshia Darby, and Kierra Echols; seven great grandchildren: Leron Woods, Mehki Thompson, Hailey Muldrow, Gabrylle McDowell, Serenity Rowell, Jamari Darby, and Walter Washington Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
