Obituary for Dan Winters Dan Winters, age 97, of Roan Mountain, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Waters of Roan Highland Nursing Home. Dan was born in Roan Mountain to the late Hamm and Rosa Richardson Winters. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline McKinney Winters; his son, Richard Winters; five sisters; and one brother.

Dan retired from North American Rayon Corporation where he had worked in the spinning department. He was a member of Lower Shell Creek Christian Church for 77 years, serving as an elder for 75 of those years. He enjoyed gardening and was a beekeeper.

Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter, Janet Potter and husband Steve, of Elizabethton; a daughter-in-law, Norma Winters; two grandchildren, Daniel Keith Winters and wife Dawn and Jennifer Street and husband Henry, all of Roan Mountain; three great grandchildren, Richie Winters, Danny Winters and Nicki Jenkins and husband Thomas; and two great great grandchildren, Kinlee and Maddie Jenkins. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Dan Winters will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church in Roan Mountain with Mr. Gerald Holly, minister, Rev.

John Henry McCoury and Rev. Tull Oaks, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the church.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church, prior to the service on Tuesday; or at the residence of his grandson, Daniel Keith Winters, 243 Winters Road, Roan Mountain, TN, at any time. The graveside service will follow in the Winter’s Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Richie Winters, Danny Winters, Henry Street, Thomas Jenkins, Ken Shell and Eddie McAllister.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Turbyfill, Lee McCoury, Don Morgan, Garry McKinney, Jack Harris, Luther Krider, Randolph Winters, David Winters, Tom Winters, Glen Maupin and Harold Maupin. The family would like to especially thank the management and staff of the Waters of Roan Highland, his church family, Thelma Avery, Janice Moze, Goldie Jones, Judy Shell and Brenda McKinney. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers, may make donations to Lower Shell Creek Christian Church, 8726 Highway 19E, Roan Mountain, TN 37687.
