Daniel C. McCargar Sr., 71, of Watertown, passed away March 2, 2019 at the Samaritan Medical Center. He was born on November 19, 1947 in Watertown, NY son of Charles and Dorothy (Graves) McCargar Sr He attended Watertown High School and following school he entered the Navy on November 29, 1966.

He served at the Lake Hurst Naval Station in Lake Hurst, NJ as an ASH III Hydraulic Aviation Tech. While stationed there he met Frances A. Dobrowolski and the couple married on April 8, 1969. The couple returned to Watertown upon his honorable discharge, where he worked at NY AirBrake as a machinist up until 1997.

He then owned and operated Dan’s Guns and Ammo from 1988 until 2001. He was a fishing guide on Lake Ontario and on Sandy Pond for twenty years, using his own personal boat called “Point Stony”. Mr. McCargar was an avid hunter and fisherman, hunting caribou in Northern Quebec, moose in Newfoundland, 21 years in a row he went fishing in Northern Quebec, and fishing in the ocean in NJ.

He also belonged to several trapping leagues and sportsman clubs throughout the area, sang with a group of friends in a band called the Kopy Kats for many years at local bars, benefits and banquets, and he and his family spent many years running a sugar shack making maple syrup. Among his survivors are his son and daughter in law, Daniel C. and Kim McCargar Jr., Watertown, his daughter and her companion, Dorothy A. Oatridge and Doug Murdock, Watertown, five grandchildren Holly, Heather, Haley, Brooke and Kayla, his companion, Joanne Wood, two brothers, Charles McCargar Jr. and his companion, Marge Gardner, Lowville, Wendell McCargar and his wife Dianne, Pillar Point, a sister and brother in law, Brenda and Patrick Mothersell, Watertown, and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are with the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.

There will be no calling hours or funeral service. It was his wishes to be cremated and to have a burial at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association 204 Iroquois Ave.
