Daniel DeVoe Fletcher March 17, 1924 – February 19, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card FLETCHER, Daniel DeVoe, 94, of Mechanicsville, went to his Heavenly home Tuesday, February 19, 2019. He was born in St. Petersburg, Fla. , on March 17, 1924.

He was the son of the late Joseph and Mable Fletcher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Marie Keeton Fletcher; one son, William Joseph Fletcher; two brothers and six sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his son, Paul DeVoe Fletcher; grandson, Trevor Jordan Fletcher (Kayla); two great-grandchildren, Brayden DeVoe and Madison Marie, all of Mechanicsville; sister-in-law, Allene Keeton Wheelhouse of Ellenboro, N.C.; and a very special friend and caregiver, Margie Smith of Mechanicsville.

Thank you Margie! Daniel had a great love for the ocean and boats, joining the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He served the Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict, in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, retiring after 21 years as Chief Boatswains Mate.

He also trained in the Navy’s deep sea diving rescue program at Groton, Conn. His favorite saying was “everyday, like Sunday on a farm, no days off” and he was active, walking his property until his last day. He gave us all someone to look up to.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, 2019, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. , with services beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Carlton Holloway officiating. Interment will follow in Signal Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VFW Post 9808, 7168 Flag Ln. , Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.
