Obituary for Daniel J. Oberdorfer Daniel J. Oberdorfer, 62, of Kingsford, MI, passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018. He was born February 10, 1956 in Iron Mountain, MI, the son of Maxine (Urban) Oberdorfer and the late Robert Oberdorfer. Dan graduated from Kingsford High School in 1974 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

He married Lauri Brackett on December 11, 1976 at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford. Dan was employed at the Niagara Paper Mill, retiring as a mill manager after 32 years. During that time, he also spent several years working as needed for the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Dept as a transporter.

Dan was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and volunteered many hours in helping construct the U.P. Veterans Memorial at Pine Mountain. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed making homemade sauerkraut, sausage, wine and maple syrup for his family and friends. Obe was a gentle giant who loved people and people loved him right back.

He will be sadly missed by those who knew him. Dan is survived by his wife, Lauri; three children, Jaime (Ian) Powell of Kingsford, Angela (Jesse) DeBacker of Cornell, MI, and Luke (Paige) Oberdorfer of Norway, MI; his mother, Maxine Vaccarello of Kingsford; two brothers, Mike (Deb) Oberdorfer of Kingsford and Rob (Darcy) Oberdorfer of Cedar Springs, MI; a sister, Jody (Steve) Marek of Kingsford; grandchildren, Meela & Benjamin DeBacker, Matthew & Alec Daniel Powell and Reece Oberdorfer; and several nieces and nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 23 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain.

A memorial service will follow at 5:00pm at the church. Rev. Thomas Beckstrom will officiate.

Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in his memory. The Oberdorfer family would like to thank Officer Rayce Maraccini and all the law enforcement agencies and search and rescue teams for their diligent efforts in bringing our husband, father and papa home.
