Mr. Darnell Mills, 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at his residence. He was born on July 28, 1939 in Guilford County to Foster Blaine and Amy Perdue Mills. Darnell was a faithful member of Union Grove Baptist Church.

He was known for his sense of humor. Darnell enjoyed wood working and he loved his family dearly. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother.

Darnell will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Darnell was preceded in death by his grandson, Cory Anthony Schwartz and his brother, Paul Welborn. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Janice Lemar Mills; two daughters, Tami Mills-Beardsley and Pam Mills Creekmore (husband, Rob); stepson, Chris Walker (wife, Linda); six grandchildren, Kyle, Jessie, Seth, Hayden, Madeleine, and Olivia; six great grandchildren, Emmie, Trace, Charlie, Wylee, Carson, Cyruss and baby Nora who is due next week; two sisters, Ruth Powers and Judy Mills; six brothers, Charles, Leon (wife, Julie), Bobby (wife, Helen), Bennie (wife, Cindy), Bill (wife, Deborah), and Gary Mills (wife, Kaye); and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Darnell will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. Interment will follow the service at Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Union Grove Baptist Church Land Fund at 5424 Union Grove Road, Oak Ridge, NC 27310.
