David A. Bade, 82 of Bay Harbor (Petoskey) and Detroit, Michigan, died May 16, 2019 at his home with family at his side. He was born in Detroit on December 16, 1936, the son of Stanley and Ruth (Boyd) Bade, who preceded him in death. He grew up in Detroit and attended Denby High School.

He received a BS degree in Civil Engineering from Wayne State University and his PE a few years later. Early in his career, he served as City Engineer for Warren, MI and later held several leadership positions for heavy construction firms with projects throughout the US. In retirement he worked as a forensic engineer.

In 1971, David sat on a chairlift at Boyne Highlands next to Linda Mascarello, and two years later, on December 29, 1973, they were married. They made a beautiful life together and were full partners until his end. Along the way, David acquired a builder’s license and applied his engineering skills to a lifelong passion of home remodeling.

He restored his 100-year home in Historic Indian Village, and helped his family and neighbors restore theirs; he always had a project underway. As a young man, he was an international champion fast-pitch softball pitcher, playing for Detroit sponsored teams that traveled around the country. When time slowed his pitches, he transferred that passion to bowling and was a 25-year member of the Detroit Athletic Club bowling league.

David was a consummate Detroit sports fan. He was a season tickets holder, at one time or another, to each of the local Detroit teams, including, with his 3 sons for more than 30 years, the Detroit Lions. He considered the men and fathers his sons have become to be the very best thing he accomplished in life, followed closely by the marriage he built with Linda, and the many friendships he treasured.

David is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Linda Mascarello Bade, brother Don (Lisa), sons, Michael (Laura), Scott (Eileen) and Jeffrey (Jennifer), 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. A private service will be held at the DAC on June 9. Please contact a family member for details.
