Obituary for David G. “Flip” Phillips David G. “Flip” Phillips, a longtime resident of Beacon, entered into rest on November 1, 2018 with his family by his side at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a long and courageous battle. He was 69 years old. Dave was born in Poughkeepsie on December 25, 1948 the son of the late William and Agnes (Franklin) Phillips.

In September of 1972, he married the former Beverly Smith, who was the love of his life and as Dave always said “his rock”. Mrs. Phillips survives at home. Flip proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps from 1968 to 1971.

He retired from IBM in East Fishkill. Dave was a charter member of the Marine Corps league, Carmen Ramputi Det. 861 and a member of the Arlington American Legion.

In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by his daughters, Joanie Spiconardi and Susie Phillips; his grandchildren, Linda, Gray, David, Joey, Andrew and Sophia; his sisters Linda Barrett and her husband, Jack, Patricia Marino and her husband, Anthony, and Maryann Wolfe and her husband, Bruce; his brother, Robert “Bob” Phillips; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Dave was predeceased by his siblings, William Ronald Phillips and Laura Phillips. Dave had a larger-than-life personality.

He lit up a room when he walked into it. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and having a good laugh. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He loved to find little treasures with his metal detector. He enjoyed going to flea markets and estate sales to find a deal. He was fiercely patriotic and so proud of being a Marine.

Dave, you will be missed so much. Your strength was unwavering and an inspiration to us all. Your watch is done, Marine.

We have it from here. Family and friends will gather on Sunday, November 4 from 2 to 6 PM at Riverview Funeral Home by Halvey, 2 Beekman Street, Beacon. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 5:30 PM followed by military honors.
