Remembering Jim Cobabe David James “Jim” Cobabe was born February 19, 1953 to Bill and Mary Cobabe. He passed away January 27, 2019 at the age of 65, of natural causes. Jim was the third of nine siblings, who grew up in the Manhattan Beach, California area.

He attended Mira Costa High School, where he played football and wrestled. He served a LDS mission in the Kansas City Missouri mission from 1972-1974. He then attended Ricks College in Idaho where he met Colleen Thomas.

They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1977, (later divorced). They had 4 boys, Jim, Rob, Tom, and Joey. Jim graduated from UC Riverside, earning a B.S. in Biology, specializing in Botany.

After graduating, he and his family moved to West Jordan Utah, where he became a computer programmer, and later a software engineer. His jobs in technology took him all over the world on business trips, including Japan and France. Later in life, he lived in Hideaway Valley in Sanpete County, Utah for many years with his parents.

He loved going off-roading in his Toyota 4-Runner, and his 4-wheeler. He was an avid outdoorsman, delighting in the wonders of nature, camping, fishing and exploring. He was an expert in identifying plants, trees, and especially flowers.

Later in his life he worked in the outdoors that he loved so much. He worked for a time with the National Forest Service. He also volunteered as a firefighter in the rugged areas of Indianola and Sanpete County.

He worked hard to obtain a tanker firetruck for the Sanpete County fire dept. He was honored for his efforts and presented a special award of thanks from the Indianola Fire department. He suffered a massive stroke in 2009, which caused him much pain and difficulty for the rest of his life.

But he never gave up, always having a strong faith in his Heavenly Father and the Gospel. His greatest delight was in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He would often go exploring with his son Tom, traveling far and wide across Utah.

Jim is survived by his four boys, Jim (Jennifer), Rob (Stacy), Tom, and Joey (Andrea); five grandchildren, Katelyn, Christopher, Lucas, Ava and Eden, as well as one brother and five sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, along with his brother Tom and sister Mary Lee, and his granddaughter, Emmalee. Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 2nd, 2019, at 11:00 am.

It will be held at the Copper Canyon LDS chapel at 5349 West 9000 South, in West Jordan UT.
