David L. Dolloff of Lyndonville passed away at his home of 45 years, January 20, 2019, after a long illness. He was 71. His devoted family was by his side.
Dave leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Sharon, his two daughters, Darcie Gaboriault of Vernon and Amy Joyal of Lyndonville, his grandchildren Jake Gaboriault, Matthew Gaboriault, Justin Joyal, Lindsay Joyal and Joshua Gaskin and his many, many friends. Dave was born in Barre, Vermont on March 18, 1947 to Clyde and Dorothy Dolloff. He and his family moved to Lyndonville when he was in 6th grade and so attended Wheelock as well as Lyndonville schools.
He graduated from L.I. in 1965. Dave chose to attend Parks College in St. Louis, MO after high school and majored in Aeronautical Engineering. He and Sharon lived in St. Louis for several years while he worked at McDonnell-Douglas as a design engineer.
After a few years, the couple decided to move back to Vermont, where they felt it was safer to raise their family. Once back home, Dave found a job as a partsman for R.A. Stahler & Sons and started building the family home. Dave was a very talented man not only at design and building but became the “go to” man for repairing or building anything.
He built his own home, garage, sheds, horse barn and sugarhouse. He even built an awesome tree house for his 5 grandchildren, who adored him. He was always there to cheer them on at their many athletic games or to take them camping and fishing on the Connecticut River.
He was a huge presence in their lives and a wonderful role model. While his girls lived at home, he became interested in horses and along with his daughter, Amy, showed horses on the Vt. circuit as well as locally.
Between them they won many ribbons and trophies and state championships. Dave had a passion for maple sugaring and built up his own sugaring operation. He became Vt.
Sugarmaker of the year in 1981, honored for his new ideas in efficiency and innovativeness. Dave was a model railroad enthusiast and belonged to a local club for a few years. Dave also was a Lyndon Outing Club Director for a few years when the entire family skied together.
Dave’s work career moved on to Vt. American Northeast Tool where he became their chief engineer and worked there for 18 years. When Northeast Tool moved south Dave found a job at ETSI in St. Johnsbury and then Lydall where he retired.
Dave loved corvettes and became quite the enthusiast. He and his wife, Sharon, joined the Corvette Club of Vt. and had many fun times traveling with the club to various locations and functions.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Clyde P. Dolloff, in 1998; his mother, Dorothy Ryall Dolloff, in 2001; his sister, Diane Dolloff LaClair in 2017; and his nephew Steven LaClair in 2015. A private spring prayer service is planned. There will be no Calling Hours.
