David S. Gifford, 91, of New Britain, passed away Tuesday (January 15, 2019) at West Hartford Health & Rehab. Born in NY City, David has been a New Britain resident the last 12 years. He received an undergraduate degree at Central CT State University (CCSU) and a Ph.

D in Education from UConn. David was employed as a high school history teacher in Wallingford before working for the State Department of Education for over 20 years. Surviving are two sons, Timothy Gifford and his wife Cheryl Stidolph Gifford of Hartford; and David J. Gifford and his wife Aki Shimazu of Japan; three grandchildren, Nadia Shimazu Gifford of Switzerland; James Stidolph Gifford of Burlington, VT; and Kathryn “Katie” Stidolph Gifford of Hartford.

David was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Gifford Carter. David was previously married to Sandra Gifford and then to Francis Logan. David’s wife Charlotte M Yopp Gifford passed away in 2012.

David was an active member of the community. He has been a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha, an international service fraternity since 1976 and a member of the NAACP. Funeral services will be held Saturday 12 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are Saturday morning 10 to 12 AM at Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New England Air Museum 36 Perimeter Road, Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
