David S. “Skip” Rykard, age 79, of 104 Cedar Court passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the NHC of Laurens. Skip was born in Columbia, SC and was the son of the late Samuel Broadus Rykard and Faye Smythe Rykard. He worked for 32 years in Textile Management and continued to work the next 15 years with his son at Rykard Land Surveying until his retirement.

He was a former Mason with the Berkeley Lodge #269, was an avid golfer, and Carolina Gamecock Super Fan and of the Baptist Faith. Skip will be remembered as he was a strong family man who loved people and enjoying life to its fullest. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Joyce Walsh Rykard of the home, his three children, Kevin Rykard (Mary) of Edmond, OK, Clay Rykard of Laurens, and Michelle Evans (Dee) of Manning, SC; his grandchildren, Marah Rykard, Kathryn Shook (Will), Caroline Rykard, Makayla Mason (Connor), Shelby Evans, Grace Rykard, and Chandler Evans.

In addition to his parents he is also predeceased by his sister, Wray R. Toney, and his daughter-in-law, Lisa M. Rykard. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2 PM at the Gray Funeral Home Chapel of Laurens by Rev. Dan Compton and Mr. Dee Evans.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Serving as active pallbearers will be Mickey Crisp, Brian Harlan, Scott McCurry, Connor Mason, Chandler Evans and Steve Brouillette. Honorary pallbearers will be Elton Gay, J.C. Whitley, David Patterson, Ed Burke and Tom Reeves.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 216 Independence Ave. Laurens, SC 29360.
