Davidean “Debbie” McCleery Seibold was born on March 2, 1928, in Edmunds, ND, the daughter of David and Hazel (Baston) McCleery. She attended a rural elementary school and Carrington High School before graduating from Jamestown High School. Debbie was then employed at the Jamestown Credit Union before meeting her first husband, Louis Cadieux.
They were married on July 22, 1947. Shortly thereafter they moved to Dallas, TX, where Louis attended college to become a professional photographer. While in Dallas, Debbie worked at the Veterans Administration until their oldest daughter Judy was born.
Louis’ work took them back to the Midwest where they owned a photography studio and Louis worked as a newspaper photographer. Two daughters, Nancy and Jo, were added during that time. Louis passed away in 1959.
In 1965, Debbie married a North Dakota farmer, Donald Seibold, who had earlier lost his wife. Life became an exciting adventure when Debbie had to take her motherhood skills to another level. The new family now included Donald’s three daughters and two sons.
Debbie actively took on the role as mother to their eight children, farmer’s wife, gardener, and hostess to large family gatherings. Meal preparation was an orchestrated/delegated division of tasks that had to be completed in a timely fashion. Unexpected guests were added without skipping a beat.
Debbie never seemed to run out of energy. Debbie enjoyed studying and memorizing scriptures from the Bible and assisting Donald as a church youth leader as they helped shape the lives of their children and neighborhood youth. Time was devoted to camping and attending all of the school activities that their children were involved in.
They were instrumental in helping start a church, Bethel Chapel, in Carrington. A highlight of their life was a trip to the Holy Land. After her relationship with God, family and country, her greatest passion in life was photography.
She never was without a movie camera, cell phone, or any devise that could take pictures, movies, or slides. Her passion was pushed to the limits when she entered the Baptist Health Care Center where healthcare privacy laws curtailed her photographic ambitions. She has since forgiven the Administrator.
In the mid-70s, Donald and Debbie became snowbirds to Peoria, AZ, an enjoyment that lasted over 30 years. Throughout the years they made many lifelong friends from both the United States and Canada. Upon retiring from farming, they lived in Carrington before moving to Bismarck in 2004.
Donald passed away in 2010. Debbie is survived by her children, Judy (Augie) Pepple, Diane (Paul) Schenkenberg, Nancy (Bruce) March, Craig Seibold, Steve Seibold, Phyllis (Dan) Kuno, Sue Green, Jo Wright (George Chaney); 22 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Geary (Jeanie) McCleery; and her foster daughter, Sharon (Rodney) VanBruggen. She was preceded in death by both her husbands; her parents; sister, Lillian; grandson, David; and great-grandson, Braylon.
