Dean Ellis Jenkins, 74, life long resident of Jasper County died on September 25, 2018, at Park Centre in Newton, after a long battle with cancer and its treatments. Dean passed away to be with his wife and loved ones who have gone before. Dean’s final request was that he be cremated with no services.

Memorials to Wesley Life Hospice or Jasper County Relay for Life may be left at the funeral home. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation. Dean, the son of Daniel and Aura (Fleming) Jenkins, was born July 16, 1944 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

In 1964, Dean wed Anna May Samson of Prairie City and moved to a farm in rural Prairie City where they had three children. They lived there until 1976 when they moved to Newton. Dean was employed for 12 years at the Parsons Company in Newton until it’s closing.

After that he worked at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown until it’s closing in 1992. Dean spent several years helping his sons with their construction business and then worked at Thomberts in Newton before retiring. A life long outdoorsman, Dean was an avid bow hunter.

He started archery in the 1960’s with a long bow and hunted until his health would no longer permit it. His life long love for sports, especially baseball, was highlighted when his Cubs finally won the World Series. Dean is survived by his children, Andrew Dean (Judy) Jenkins of Tipton, Dwain (Danette) Jenkins of Colfax, and Alisha Jenkins of Newton; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Bill Jenkins of Newton; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Charles (Marilyn) Samson of Prairie City and Ralph (Kim) Samson of Lacona; and sisters-in-law, Annie Jenkins of Lincoln, Nebraska and Judy Jenkins of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 39 years, Anna May; brothers, Dan and Jim Jenkins; sisters, Elma Rogers and Lucille Wolfe; and his mother and father-in-law, Charlie and Marsela Samson. Dean was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
