Delilah Mae Lusby Hutchinson 1922 – 2018 Delilah Hutchinson, age 95, passed away April 16, 2018 at The Glasgow Gardens following a brief recovery from hip surgery. Delilah Mae Lusby was the last of seven children born to Jesse and Ada Fugate Lusby on October 31, 1922 in rural Fayette, MO. She was a graduate of Fayette High School.

Shortly after graduation, June 6, 1941, she married Howard R. Hutchinson of Salisbury and they would reside briefly on the Hutchinson farm south of Salisbury. On June 6, 2011, Delilah and Howard celebrated their seventieth anniversary with proclamations from President Obama, the U.S. Congress and Senate as well as several state Representatives and Senators. Not long after their marriage, Howard was inducted into the United States Army and was stationed in California.

Delilah followed along and held several different jobs prior to Howard’s deployment to Korea during the Second World War. Upon completion of his military service, the couple returned to the family farm until Howard’s employment with the Rural Electrification Cooperative in Fayette. Eventually they would make their home at 306 W. Davis and later at 726 Hwy.

5 & 240. During this time the Hutchinson’s started a family and a son Carl Le Von was stillborn on February 10, 1949. A second son, David Randall (Randy) would follow on February 22, 1955.

Along with parenting needs, Delilah began studies for becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse and became licensed on March 29, 1954. This started and extensive career first at Lee Hospital and later Keller Hospital both in Fayette. Upon the opening of the Fayette Medical Clinic, Delilah began working as a Doctor’s Office Nurse until her retirement in 1993.

Delilah was an avid gardener annually producing a bountiful supply of vegetables for not only eating and preserving, but was constantly giving away fresh produce to those who wanted fresh produce. An excellent cook, no one ever came to Delilah’s home for a meal that would not be superb in both quality and quantity. Many of the deserts made by Delilah were often auctioned for top dollar at various fund raising events.

In 1989, she was selected by the Columbia Daily Tribune as the top pick for a Christmas dessert. In her spare time from work, family, gardening and cooking, Delilah enjoyed bowling, working with the Senior Citizen’s Meals on Wheels program and playing cards with friends at the Senior Center. As an active member of the Fayette First Baptist Church, Delilah was always assisting in the nursery, with Bible School and meal preparations for church functions.

In the later years of her life, Delilah enjoyed living at The Lodge and thrived with the contact of staff and residents alike loving them all like family. Preceding her in death were her husband, Howard who passed on August 6, 2011 and her son, Carl Le Von on February 10, 1949, her parents and all six of her siblings. Survivors include her son, Randy and wife, Jocelyn of Fayette; grandson, Jason and wife, Sarah Hutchinson and great-granddaughters, Katherine and Elizabeth also of Fayette and granddaughter, Kimberly and husband, Adam Bowers and great-grandsons, Dakota and Alexander of Park Hills, MO.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Services celebrating Delilah’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Fayette First Baptist Church with Rev. James Briggs and Rev.

Dale Larison officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Fayette.
