Odette, 65, of Menominee, Mich. , passed away Friday, May 10, 2019, surrounded by her family, after a brave fight with breast cancer. Denise was born Dec.

28, 1953, in Sedalia, Mo. , daughter of the late Ralph and Ida (Myers) Grotzinger. On July 24, 1977, Denise married Al Odette.

A graduate of Western Carolina University, Denise received a BS in Accounting, and went on to receive her CPA, CFE and CMA. She was a skilled accountant with the highest ethical principles and was affectionately known to her co-workers as a “SOx cop” for her strict adherence to accounting guidelines. She worked as an accountant for area companies, including Menominee Paper, Badger Paper, ERDA and Tyco, retiring in 2014.

She also taught accounting at a local college. Denise was extremely talented at hand-work, including sewing, woodcarving and carpentry. She made many beautiful pieces, including bookcases, desks, a crib and end tables, and had hand-carved crucifixes for churches in north Georgia and western North Carolina.

She also made rosaries, which had been blessed and sent out all over the world for the comfort of others. Denise loved to travel with her husband Al and they were working on a travel bucket list when she became ill. They renewed their marriage vows in 2017 during a cruise to Alaska.

She set herself challenging walking and biking mileage goals and completed a 1,000-mile goal in 2017 and was well on her way to her mileage goal in 2018, even completing a 40K charity bike ride. Denise is survived by her husband, her two sons: Mike Odette, Columbia, Mo. ; and Robert (Melanie) Odette, Boise, ID.

; two daughters: Gail (Brian) Suberbielle, Baton Rouge, La. ; and Jessica (Dave) Mosey, Midland, Mich. ; brother, Pete (Joyce) Grotzinger, Omaha, Neb.

; four sisters: Candace (Jim) Arrington, Tucson, Ariz; Sandi Neil and Jeannie Schroder, both of Statesboro, Ga; her identical twin, Danette (Tim) Wood, Metter, Ga; and eight grandchildren. Visitation will be at Thielen Funeral Home, Marinette, from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 16, followed by funeral services at 4 p.m. with Fr. Mark McQuesten officiating.

Denise’s family would like to thank the staff of UP Home Health and Hospice for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions for breast cancer research.
