Dennis A. Cook was born December 16, 1947 in Kendrick, Oklahoma to Chester and Lucille (Carey) Cook. Dennis passed away June 15, 2018 in Oklahoma City at the age of 70. Dennis was raised in Kendrick where he attended school through the 9th grade and later attended and graduated from Davenport High School with the class of 1966.

Dennis joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard out of high school and served as a forward observer in artillery achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. He and his wife, Mary Beth (Place), made their home in Davenport until 1996 when they moved Northwest of Chandler through present day. Dennis had a joy for fishing and hunting in the Kiamichi Mountains with his son, Ryan, and other family and friends.

He enjoyed gardening and was known as the “Okra Man” in the area. He could fix and repair almost anything and loved to work with his hands. He also enjoyed creating metal art and attending auctions.

Dennis served as a leader and deacon for over 40 years in Baptist Churches. He read his Bible faithfully and was a teacher in the church, gifted with articulating history. Many of you have likely heard an “Upon the Alpine” story.

Following the 2013 tornado which devastated much of Carney, Dennis joined the relief effort at the Carney Baptist Church and became the chainsaw sharpening guy. He loved giving his grandchildren rides on the tractor to go see cattle followed by an evening campfire. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Lucille Cook; sisters, Pat Williams, Brenda Cook; brothers, Jim Cook, and Gary Cook.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Beth (Place) Cook of the home; daughter, Angela Cook and Pete Robinson of OKC; son, Ryan Cook and wife Marci of Bixby; (5) grandchildren, Merissa, Jaden, Seth, Asher, Kyanna; (1) great-granddaughter, Samantha Maye; brother, Dean Cook of Stillwater; sister, Glenda Hall of Kendrick; along with many other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Davenport. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
