Abbott Jr., he graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1953. After a US Air Force deployment to Korea, he was employed as an engineering technician at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 35 years.

In 1968 he followed a dream to live in the NH north country, purchasing Tall Timber Lodge & Cabins in Pittsburg, NH with his wife Terry. After retirement they established an antiquarian book business. Denny was an avid outdoorsman and athlete.

He had fond memories competing for Portsmouth high School in football and baseball, completing a no-hitter against Laconia in 1953. In the late 50’s to early 60’s, his sports car racing hobby took him to tracks and hill-climbs around New England, often returning with a trophy in the back seat.

He enjoyed hunting, boating and camping with his family. In later years he enjoyed rooting for New England sports teams, rarely missing a Red Sox game. In 1967 Denny found his passion in birdwatching.

Well-respected by his colleagues within the local Audubon Society chapters for his ongoing and dedicated contributions to the study of bird species in New England and across the USA, he was honored to receive the Goodhue-Elkins award in 1995. He was an elected member of the prestigious Nuttall Ornithological Club. Denny was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Theresa A. (Cassidy) Abbott of Stratham.
