Donald G. Holtrop, age 79 of West Olive, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Heartwood Lodge. He was born on August 11, 1938 to the late Henry and Katie (Mandemaker) Holtrop at home, at 668 Lynch Street SW in Grand Rapids, MI. Don proudly attended the former Southwest Christian Schools in Grand Rapids and was a member of the Class of 1956 at Grand Rapids Christian High School.

He was also a member of the Heritage Class at Calvin College, having graduated in 1961. After college, he went on to become a stockbroker and financial planner for 35 years. Don proudly served his country in the United States Navy.

He married Barbara Schuitema on April 10, 1964 in Hudsonville, MI. Don was an active member of Second Christian Reformed Church where he served as Elder and was involved in many church activities. He volunteered his service to Love, Inc. and loved meeting friends for coffee.

Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara; three sons, Dennis Holtrop of Berkeley, CA, Dean (Faith Begay) Holtrop of Albuquerque, NM, Michael (Kim Maningo) Holtrop of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Marin, Dylan, Calista, and Delaney Holtrop; and sister, Etta Van Wingerden of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph, Albert, Gertrude, Henry Jr., and Norman. The Memorial Service for Don will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Second Christian Reformed Church with Dr. George Kroeze and Pastor Laura de Jong officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Donald and Barbara Holtrop Family Scholarship C/O Calvin College.
