Obituary for Donald Kays “Possum” Donald Lee Kays “Possum”, 80, of Mooresville, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was born to Harry Allen and Bonnie Ethel (Smoot) Kays on July 14, 1938 in Indianapolis. He attended Mooresville High School.
He married Margaret Ann (Anderson) Kays on September 25, 1959. Donald is survived by his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Margaret Kays of Mooresville; five loving children, Donald Wayne (Rhonda) Kays of Monrovia, Ronald (Dara) Kays of Mooresville, Leann (John) Stahley of Waverly, Thomas Kays of Mooresville and Chrissy (Doug) Kenipe of Monrovia; 14 grandchildren, Nicholas Singleton, Brian Kays, Tyler Stahley, Patrick Kays, Stephanie Kays, Zachary Stahley, Sarah Kays, Emily Kays, Macy Kenipe, Drew Stahley, Dalton Kenipe, Hannah Kays, Hunter Kays and Noah Kenipe; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Kays of Mooresville; and one sister, Linda Kays of Plainfield. Donald is preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Brian Kays; two brothers, Dean and Bill Kays; and two sisters, Cookie Barrier and Sue Link.
Donald was a Machine Repairman for Link Belt for 19 years and Allison G.M. Division for 20 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Mooresville American Legion, Mooresville Eagles and formerly a member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. He enjoyed coaching little league sports and fishing.
He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He grew up in Mooresville, lived in Monrovia for 30 years and then moved back to Mooresville in 2004. Family and friends may show their love and support from 5-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 27th at Jones Family Mortuary in Mooresville.
A brother-in-law, George Anderson, will officiate Donald’s celebration of life memorial service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening.
