Donald P. Bruns, age 79, of Maple Lake, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 while under the care of Guardian Angels Hospice at Park View Care Center in Buffalo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as Celebrant.

Burial will follow at St. Timothy Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, both at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Donald Peter Bruns was born May 19, 1939 in Maple Lake, Minnesota to Peter and Margaret (Mares) Bruns. He graduated from Maple Lake High School with the Class of 1957. On June 15, 1963, Don was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Pribyl at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake.

Don worked for Mammoth Industries for many years before retiring in 2001. He had a hobby farm west of Maple Lake where he raised his 3 children. Don enjoyed spending time with his family on the farm and telling stories with friends.

He also enjoyed trips to the casino, garage sales, auctions, working on tractors, and helping people find that one special item they were looking for. He attended St. Timothy Catholic Church and usually went out for supper after church with a group of friends and caught up on the local news in Maple Lake. Even though he had been living at Park View Care Center in Buffalo, he knew more about what was going on in Maple Lake than some of the people living there.

He was happy at Park View and stayed busy playing bingo, going to church, attending parties, making bird houses, growing sweet corn, and taking the van to dances. If something needed to be fixed and the custodians were busy, they would call Don with his bag of tools. The nurses and staff were always happy to see Don, and visit with him.

Don is survived by his children, Alan (Teresa) Bruns of Maple Lake and Sandra (Ronald) Borell of Ramsey; grandchildren, Tyler (Paige) Bruns, Megan Bruns, Jeff Borell, and Dan Borell. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy in 1974, son William “Bill” Bruns in 2008, daughter-in-law Mary (Langanki) Bruns in 2014, parents Peter & Margaret Bruns, brothers Raymond and Francis Bruns, and sister Margaret Meissen. Dean Bruns, Tim Bruns, Tom Bruns, Peter Meissen, Jeff Paumen, and Kerry Paumen will serve as pallbearers.

Krista Elsenpter Tarbox and Sarah Goelz will provide music for the service. Arrangements entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Maple Lake.
