Obituary for Donald Phillip “Don” Sanders CLINTON – Donald Phillip Sanders, 88, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at the Sussman House in Rockport, Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Born in Canaan, April 24, 1930, he was the son of Harry and Francis Kelley Sanders. Don began his working career as a young man.

He held various jobs, before becoming a general contractor, owning his own company, Sanders General Construction. Most of his work was in the central Maine area, but occasionally extended further including the home for his daughter and son-in-law in Union. For 51 years, Don was married to his best friend, Bernice ‘Bunny White Sanders.

The two were married on June 12, 1952. Predeceased by his wife in 2003; a son Steven Sanders in 2008; as well as a sister Virginia Shaw; Don is survived by his daughters, Pamela Betts and her husband Frank of Clinton, Kelly Graves and her husband Brad of Union; a daughter-in-law Bonnie Sanders of Windham, NH; seven grandchildren, Trent Sanders, David Sanders, Michael Betts, Tavia Betts Pilbus and her husband Lloyd, Briana Turner, Ashley Smith and her husband Trevor, George Graves and his wife Thy; 5 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Judy Hodgdon of Canaan and Barbara Desmond of Clinton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2018 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland where the service for Donald will be held at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald’s memory to Sussman Hospice House, c/o Pen Bay Healthcare, 22 White Street, Rockland, Maine 04841.
