Obituary for Donna M. Nelson Donna M. Nelson RACINE – Donna M. (nee: Slater) Nelson, 82, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at Ascension All Saints Hospital. She was born in Racine on September 1, 1935, the daughter of the late Francis “Dutch” and Marie “Esther” (nee: Haigh) Slater. Donna was a 1953 graduate of Washington Park High School.

On July 18, 1956, she was united in marriage to James “Joe” Nelson at Atonement Lutheran Church. Donna worked for many years as a cashier at Sentry Foods. She was a longtime member of Living Faith Lutheran Church (formerly Atonement Lutheran Church).

Donna enjoyed bowling, working in her yard with her flowers, crocheting prayer shawls for church, sewing, and writing poems. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, but above all else, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donna will be missed by her daughters, Jana Nelson, and Kelli Nelson; grandchildren, Kyle (Aria) Sherwood, and Kayla Sherwood; great-grandchildren, Jadah, Kadynce, Ella, Zaedyn, and Ruby, sister, Dorothy (Robert) Jensen; sisters-in-law, Thelma Slater, and Karen Nelson, step-sister, Judy Beilke, and step-brother, Ron Slater.

She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Joe on May 15, 2005, and her brother, Wesley Slater. A funeral service for Donna will be held at Living Faith Lutheran Church, 2915 Wright Ave, on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. with Rev.

Denise Mbise officiating. A visitation will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Monday, July 16, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and again at Living Faith Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The family would like to thank Dr. Ryan Engel and staff for the compassionate care and to all of her family and friends for their love and support.
