Obituary for Donnie Ray Cates Donnie Ray Cates Born May 14th, 1948, & went to rest on April 21st, 2018 He was born to William Richard Cates & Hettie Elizabeth (Sheffield) Cates. Donnie was the youngest of the 3 brothers and 1 sister. He met and married Darylss Elaine (Smith) Cates in 1979.

In a joint marriage they raised 3 children Trent Hammond, Tim Cates, and Kellie (Cates) Nieri. He was a husband, son, brother, father, grandfather & and great-grandfather. Donnie was an amazing man, that loved his family wholeheartedly.

He led a full life of hard work and good times. Although Donnie got sick with Alzheimer’s in his later years, he always remembered to smile, and it is that smile and love we will carry with us for many years to come. He was preceded in death by his parents, two of his brothers Roy & Bill and his sister Bea and his son Trent.

He is survived by wife Darlyss, brother Johnny, children Tim and Kellie, daughter-in-law Nancy, and 11 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren. Donnie’s memorial service will be held at Layton Alpine Church at 254 W. 2675 N. Layton UT. A celebration of life reception will immediately follow the service, hosted by Nancy Hammond.
